Study Outline: This multicenter, randomized, parallel-group, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 601 adult patients treated at 30 clinical sites evaluated the efficacy and safety of MUCINEX D (600 mg guaifenesin and 60 mg pseudoephedrine HCl extended-release bi-layer tablets) in providing relief of respiratory symptoms when used as adjunctive therapy to antibiotics in patients with an ARI1
Treatment Regimen: Patients were prescribed an antibiotic regimen determined by the treating physician plus 2 MUCINEX D tablets or matching placebo BID for 7 days.1
*Based on a search (several databases, including PubMed, as of June 6, 2008) of clinical trials conducted over the past 10 years in which an OTC medication containing guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine HCl was used as an adjunct to an antibiotic.
